Dickerson scratched from Brewers' lineup

PEORIA, Ariz. -- Brewers outfielder Chris Dickerson was scratched from the Brewers' starting lineup on Wednesday, two days after he was involved in a frightening collision on the basepaths with Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval.

"If he doesn't go today, it's just because his action swinging the bat is sore," manager Ron Roenicke said before the decision was official. "They don't think it's anything other than [tenderness] from the impact."

It was quite an impact. Dickerson tried to beat a bouncing ball to Sandoval and get to third base but came up short. He had the wind knocked out of him but walked off the field, and X-rays were negative.

He was originally slated to start in center field Wednesday night against the Mariners but was bumped by the team's athletic training staff after a so-so showing in drills on Tuesday.

"Considering it was just [Tuesday] that we started the rehab, it makes sense," Dickerson said. "Today will be good to really go out and try to run down some balls and see how it feels. Maybe we'll get back in a game [on Thursday]. There's still some soreness and tightness at this point."
