Padres at the plate:
Jeff DaVanon hit a go-ahead groundout in the second inning that gave the Padres the lead for good. Luis Rodriguez later hit a two-run single, and Paul McAnulty hit a three-run home run and Marshall McDougal ripped a two-run double in a six-run Padres eighth inning. Left fielder Chase Headley went 2-for-3 and has six hits in his last three games
Brewers at the plate:
Rickie Weeks led off the bottom of the first inning with a walk, stole second base and then scored on J.J. Hardy's single for a 1-0 lead. Brad Nelson hit a three-run homer in the eighth.
Padres on the mound:
Chris Young started and surrendered a run on two hits in two innings of work, and chipped in an RBI single himself. Four relievers combined to hold Milwaukee scoreless on two hits from the third through the seventh innings.
Brewers on the mound:
Jeff Suppan worked around a double and an error in a scoreless first inning, but was not as successful in the second, when a hit batsman and two singles contributed to a go-ahead Padres rally. Derrick Turnbow pitched a 1-2-3 third inning. Minor Leaguer Robert Hinton suffered most of the damage in the eighth, when he was charged with four runs in 2/3 of an inning.

Padres 2-2, Brewers 2-3.
The Brewers travel to Mesa on Tuesday for their first spring showdown against the Cubs, who edged them by two games in the National League Central last season, at 2:05 CT. Claudio Vargas starts for Milwaukee against former Cubs closer Ryan Dempster.
