BREWERS 12, RANGERS 6
at Surprise, Ariz.
Wednesday, March 5

Brewers at the plate: Second baseman Craig Counsell led off and led the way with two hits and three RBIs as the Brewers built an early 9-0 lead. Eric Munson and Bill Hall also had two hits apiece, and Gabe Kapler hit an RBI double for the second straight day.

Rangers at the plate: Third baseman Travis Metcalf hit a solo home run in the fifth inning that put Texas on the board and sparked a comeback. The Rangers have homered in six of their seven games this spring.

Brewers on the mound: Manny Parra breezed through three scoreless innings (two hits, four strikeouts) but Dave Bush followed and ran into trouble. Bush surrendered five runs, only three of them earned, on six hits and two walks in three innings. In five innings spanning two starts, Bush has surrendered six earned runs and 10 hits.

Rangers on the mound: Matt Harrison and Omar Poveda combined to allow nine runs on nine hits and four walks in the first 2 2/3 innings of the game, though only three of the runs were earned because of a pair of errors. Reliever Kazuo Fukumori worked a scoreless fifth inning, his third scoreless appearance this spring.

Cactus League records: Brewers 4-3, Rangers 4-3-1.

Up next: The Brewers return home on Thursday for a matchup of aces, as Ben Sheets gets the start against the Mariners and Felix Hernandez. The Rangers will make their first trip to Tucson, Ariz., for a game against the White Sox. Vicente Padilla is scheduled to start against Chicago's Gavin Floyd.
