Mariners at the plate: Jose Vidro got the first hit for the Mariners, whose bats were mostly silent against the Brewers. His hit came in the seventh. Adrian Beltre also had a hit.

Brewers at the plate: Mike Cameron had the game's first hit: a single in the bottom of the first inning. With one out, J.J. Hardy's double in the third drove in game's only two runs.

Mariners on the mound: Right-hander Miguel Batista had an uneven outing. He worked three innings and gave up four hits and two runs. He walked three and uncorked a wild pitch. Left-hander Jake Woods followed him for the Mariners, and Woods held the Brewers hitless.

Brewers on the mound: Right-hander Claudio Vargas was almost perfect, aside from a walk. Vargas went five innings and struck out two. Derrick Turnbow and Eric Gagne both pitched a scoreless inning.

Cactus League records: Mariners 4-6; Brewers 7-4.

Up next: Left-hander Erik Bedard will start for the Mariners on Monday in Tucson, Ariz., when they take on the White Sox at 1:05 p.m. PT. Bedard will face left-hander Mark Buehrle. For the Brewers, right-hander Dave Bush will start in a game against the Chicago Cubs. Bush will face left-hander Rich Hill in a game set to start at 3:05 p.m. CT.
