Brewers reliever Riske injures elbow

MILWAUKEE -- Brewers reliever David Riske hyper-extended his right elbow throwing a pitch in the eighth inning Wednesday and will be examined by the team's physician on Thursday.

Riske, who signed a three-year free-agent deal with the Brewers in December, has a 4.71 ERA in 18 appearances this season.

He entered Wednesday's game with two outs and two men on base in the seventh inning, just after Juan Pierre's RBI single popped out of left fielder Ryan Braun's glove and cut the Brewers' lead to 4-3. Riske struck out Andruw Jones to end that inning, then retired Matt Kemp leading off the eighth before abruptly leaving with the injury.

Riske has been on the disabled list only once since 2002, and that was for a lower back strain.
