Gamel undergoes knee surgery
MILWAUKEE -- Brewers first baseman Mat Gamel underwent season-ending surgery on his torn right ACL on Tuesday morning. Dr. William Raasch, who performed the surgery, also cleaned up the lateral meniscus in Gamel's right knee.

Before sustaining the injury in a 2-0 loss to the Padres on May 1, the 26-year-old first baseman was batting .246 (17-for-69) with six RBIs and one home run in 21 games this season. Since Gamel went down, Milwaukee has started four different players at first base, including Corey Hart on Monday night.

Gamel is the second Brewer to undergo the season-ending procedure in less then a week, as shortstop Alex Gonzalez had his torn right ACL repaired Thursday.
