Roenicke backs Wolf during rough stretch
MILWAUKEE -- Brewers manager Ron Roenicke had a chat with frustrated starter Randy Wolf during batting practice on Saturday after telling reporters he had no thoughts at all about removing Wolf from the pitching rotation.

"It's not even on my mind right now," Roenicke said.

The veteran left-hander is winless with a 5.34 ERA in 11 starts since April 30, a mixture of some poor starts and some bad luck. For the season, opponents are hitting Wolf at a .308 clip.

The Brewers were in position to win Wolf's four starts prior to Friday's blowout loss to the D-backs, but each of those four wins slipped away from the bullpen. On Friday, Wolf was simply knocked around, allowing nine hits and eight runs (seven earned) in four innings.

Afterward, he described his season as a "nightmare, starting from Day 1."

"He's had a tough year," Roenicke said. "I'm hoping last night doesn't set him back, because the four previous games, I thought were good. I think he's been throwing the ball really well. [Friday] night, he didn't throw the ball well. I'm hoping that he goes back to where he was before last night."

Roenicke considered the idea that Wolf may be tipping pitches, but after watching video determined, "he's fine there." Roenicke has a reputation for being particularly adept at identifying pitchers' tips.

Wolf's next scheduled outing is Wednesday against the Marlins, against whom he is 4-12 with a 5.98 ERA in 21 career starts.
