MILWAUKEE -- The Brewers' highest unsigned Draft pick, University of Oklahoma right-hander Damien Magnifico, posted a tweet on Saturday indicating he'd made a decision about his baseball future. Precisely what the fifth-round selection had decided remained a mystery. Magnifico wrote that, "It's great to be around family, friends, and the girlfriend. And now have things figured out for the future." He added the hash tag, "#blessed." Asked about Magnifico's tweet, Brewers amateur scouting director Bruce Seid was just as vague, writing in an email that, "Both parties are still doing their work."
Major League Baseball prescribed a $385,400 bonus for Magnifico's spot in the First-Year Player Draft. Magnifico was a Draft-eligible sophomore, so he could return to school if he does not sign with the Brewers before the 4 p.m. CT deadline on July 13. The Brewers' only other unsigned pick in the top 14 rounds is eighth-round selection Edgardo Rivera, a prep outfielder from Puerto Rico.
