The Milwaukee Brewers signed free agent left-handed reliever Tom Gorzelanny to a two-year contract today.  The announcement was made by Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Melvin.

Gorzelanny, 30, went 4-2 with a 2.88 ERA and 1 save in 45 games (1 start) with Washington last season.  After struggling with a 6.17 ERA during April (7g, 11.2ip, 8er), he rebounded with a 2.24 ERA the rest of the season (38g, 60.1ip, 15er).  He posted a 1.33 ERA out of the bullpen following the All-Star Break (27ip, 4er), which tied for seventh among Major League relievers (minimum 25.0 innings).

Gorzelanny worked at least two innings in 19 of his 44 relief appearances last season, which tied for fourth in the Major Leagues.  The 2012 season marked his first as a full-time reliever.

Gorzelanny is 44-45 with a 4.41 ERA and 2 saves in 193 games (111 starts) during eight Major League seasons with Pittsburgh (2005-09), Chicago-NL (2009-10) and Washington (2011-12).  He is 35-42 with a 4.61 ERA as a starter (621ip, 318er) and 9-3 with a 3.32 ERA as a reliever (114ip, 42er).
