SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Yuniesky Betancourt celebrated rejoining the Brewers with a two-run homer and a double during a 6-2 victory over the Rockies in both teams' Cactus League finale on Thursday at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick.
Betancourt, a key member of the 2011 Brewers club that advanced to the National League Championship Series, began the spring with the Phillies but was released. He signed with the Brewers on Wednesday. He homered off Rockies starter Nick Schmidt as part of a four-run third inning and later doubled.
Right-handed pitcher Kyle Lohse, another recent free agent the Brewers signed, held the Rockies to four hits and one run and struck out two in 3 2/3 innings.
For the Rockies, Dexter Fowler went 2-for-2 with a double, and Carlos Gonzalez and Todd Helton also doubled as the Rockies started the eight that are expected to be in the lineup when the season opens Monday in Milwaukee. Manager Walt Weiss pulled the starters after a couple of turns through the order.
Rockies Minor League outfielder Tyler Massey hit an opposite-way home run to right field in the sixth.
The teams each played their hands closely. Lohse will not start during the three-game series with the Rockies to start the season. Meanwhile, the Rockies put lefty Jorge De La Rosa -- who is expected to start Tuesday in the second game of the year -- in a Minor League game against the D-backs.
Up next: The Brewers broke camp after Thursday's game and flew home to Milwaukee. They play a pair of exhibition games against the White Sox at Miller Park Friday at 7 p.m. CT and Saturday at 1:10 p.m. CT. Wily Peralta is scheduled to throw against Hector Santiago on Friday. Manager Ron Roenicke said final roster spots have already been determined, but won't be announced until Saturday. The Brewers open the season at home on Monday against the Rockies.
