"We are very saddened to hear the news of Mike's passing," said Brewers Chief Operating Officer Rick Schlesinger. "Mike was not only a dedicated player and broadcaster for the organization; he was a great friend to many and much-loved in the community. On behalf of everyone here at the Brewers, I want to pass along our deepest condolences to Mike's family during this difficult time."
Hegan was a member of the organization from the outset of the franchise, playing for the Pilots in Seattle and the coming to Milwaukee with the franchise move. He continued his career Oakland in 1971 but returned to the Brewers for the 1974 season. Hegan remained with the team through his retirement as a player in 1977.
Following his retirement, Hegan spent 12 seasons with the Brewers as a television and radio broadcaster.
Bob Uecker added the following: "Mike was a friend for a long time as a player and also as a broadcaster. My condolences to (wife) Nancy and the rest of the Hegan family."
