The Brewers' No. 1 prospect, Jimmy Nelson, threw 6 2/3 scoreless innings Wednesday and helped lead Triple-A Nashville to a 5-0 victory against Memphis.
Nelson, ranked No. 65 on MLBPipeline.com's Top 100 Prospects list, struck out five batters, walked one and scattered four hits. He won his third consecutive start and extended his scoreless innings streak to 14.
Nelson had just two 1-2-3 innings, but pitched around the base runners. He generated 10 ground-ball outs and threw 91 pitches.
With the victory, Nelson improved to 10-2 with a 1.56 ERA in 16 games this season. He has struck out 110 batters and walked 30 in 104 innings. Nelson leads the Pacific Coast League in strikeouts and is tied for the league lead in wins, ERA and WHIP (0.92).
