But he knows that returning to action too early could cause a setback. Garza has been shut down since injuring his side in an Aug. 3 start in St. Louis and is on the 15-day disabled list. Because of the fickle nature of rib-cage muscle strains, team officials have offered no timetable for a return.
Garza had a similar issue last season while with the Cubs but is certain that this current injury is significantly less severe.
"I'm still as optimistic as I was," he said. "Until it goes away, you can't really do much, [or you can] re-aggravate it. So we're just kind of waiting until it all clears up."
